The original premise
The original premise to this game was that you could only eat objects that were smaller than you - including the enemies - so you'd be able to eat more things the bigger you got until you'd finally be able to eat the entire city. :P During this time, bigger and bigger enemies would spawn so you'd always have a "bigger fish" hunting you down, so to speak. This was a bit too ambitious of a project considering our amount of experience with Unreal and the time limits, so it was scrapped and turned into "eat as much as you can before the enemy overwhelms you" type of infinite runner game.
The issues we ran into with the original design were:
- Enemies were supposed to run away when you were bigger than them and they just stopped moving instead. Or sometimes they just barreled straight to their death.
- Didn't have enough time to implement the feature where you could eat EVERYTHING
- Enemies keep getting stuck on the environment, immediately stop moving and refuse to start back up again
- Bigger and badder enemies either didn't spawn, didn't do damage or didn't move without rhyme or reason.
- Spaghetti code. LOL. Organization was sacrificed while trial and error-ing my way through and it ended up just causing more confusion.
We're still interested in this game concept and plan to continue development. We'll probably end up designing a game that has different modes so the original idea can still be brought to life while also finishing the current design.
